McInnes Wilson Lawyers in Canberra is seeking a Solicitor to join our Insurance Litigation team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will work on defendant insurance matters for insurers and government clients, with mentoring from a Principal and strong team support.

This role suits a newly admitted solicitor or someone in their first year, ready to develop across public liability, CTP, workers' compensation, and broader insurance litigation, progressing cases from inception to resolution with

Qualifications

• Newly admitted solicitor or within first year of practice.
• Interest in defendant insurance litigation across public liability, CTP and workers' compensation.
• Strong written communication and attention to detail.
• Excellent research, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Confident communicator with ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Well-organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage defendant insurance litigation matters under supervision.
• Take carriage of smaller claims with appropriate supervision.
• Draft advices, pleadings, submissions, briefs and correspondence.
• Conduct legal research and analyse claim materials.
• Liaise directly with clients, insurers, barristers and experts.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences and court proceedings.
• Negotiate settlements and assist with dispute resolution.
• Progress files from inception through to resolution and meet deadlines.
