Job summary

ASC Pty Ltd in Western Australia seeks skilled Insulators for a long-term overseas assignment in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, USA, starting February 2027 for 34 weeks with world-class training.

Responsibilities include measuring, cutting, and installing insulation on ship systems, creating blankets and coverings, applying vapor barriers, and performing ongoing repairs using hand and power tools. Citizenship and NV1 clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Insulator is highly regarded.
  • Experience as a Lagger.
  • Fibreglass experience highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and to learn new skills.
  • Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain NV1 defence clearance.

ASC is Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available February 2027and will be 34 weeks in duration.

Responsibilities

As an Insulator, you will:

  • Measure, cut, and install insulation materials such as fiberglass, foam, and mineral wool on pipes, ducts, boilers, tanks, and hull structures

  • Create and install insulation blankets, pads, and covers to fit irregular shapes and complex ship systems

  • Apply vapor barriers, jacketing, and mastic coatings to protect the insulation from moisture and ensure fire resistance

  • Remove and replace damaged or deteriorated insulation materials and perform ongoing repairs to maintain system functionality

  • Utilise hand tools (knives, saws, tape measures) and power tools for cutting, fitting, and applying insulation materials

Eligibility Criteria

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Previous experience as an Insulator is highly regarded

  • Experience as a Lagger

  • Fibreglass experience highly regarded

  • Proven ability to be flexible and an eagerness to learn and develop new skills

  • Australian Citizenship

  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you willreturn to Western Australia (WA)to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines.
