Job description

ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an Instructional Designer to support the ongoing development, maintenance and continuous improvement of learning solutions across ASC.

This role is primarily focused on business-as-usual learning support, managing a steady stream of learning requests through ASC's Jira ticketing system. You will work closely with internal customers and subject matter experts to update existing content, develop new learning solutions, and ensure learning materials remain accurate, compliant and aligned with business needs.

While the role may support project-based work from time to time, the primary focus is on delivering responsive, customer-focused Learning and Development services that build workforce capability and support operational performance.

You will join a collaborative team committed to continuous improvement, innovation and learner-centred design. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your instructional design expertise in a technical environment while building strong relationships across the business and influencing capability outcomes.

This is a full-time opportunity Preferably based in Western Australia, but open to applicants based in South Australia.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality instructional design services in response to business and stakeholder requests.
  • Build strong relationships with internal customers and subject matter experts to understand learning needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Develop, maintain and improve eLearning, systems training, assessments, job aids and other learning resources.
  • Manage and respond to learning requests raised through the Jira ticketing system within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure learning content remains accurate, current, compliant and aligned with business requirements.
  • Design and storyboard engaging digital learning experiences, including video, simulations, scenarios and interactive activities.
  • Apply contemporary instructional design principles, learning technologies and best practices to improve learner outcomes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of learning content, processes and learner experience.
  • Support a consistent Learning and Development brand and ensure learning resources are accessible and fit for purpose.
  • Provide responsive, professional and customer-focused support to stakeholders across ASC.
About you
  • 3-5 years' experience in Instructional Design, Learning Design, or a related field.
  • TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development (or equivalent).
  • Other relevant tertiary qualifications will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of the ADDIE model and contemporary learning design methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing end-to-end learning solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Articulate 360, including Storyline and Rise.
  • Strong capability across Microsoft 365, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience developing digital learning resources, including video creation and editing.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and passionate about creating engaging learning experiences that drive capability and performance outcomes.
  • Exposure to technical writing and technical writing tools would be desirable
