Job summary

Public Service Association of South Australia (PSA), together with CPSU, represents over 50,000 public sector employees and is seeking an experienced Industrial Officer to lead high-level advocacy and complex case work.

You will manage cases, provide expert advice on industrial instruments, and represent members in state and federal tribunals, supported by an experienced leader.

Job description

The Public Service Association of South Australia (PSA), together with the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), is the principal union with coverage of over 50,000 South Australian public sector employees.

The PSA is entering a new phase of leadership with a clear objective: to re-establish itself as one of the most effective, visible and powerful unions in South Australia - winning for members, shaping public debate and the future of the public sector.

About the role:

We are seeking union experienced and strategic Industrial Officers to join our Industrial Team in a senior capacity.

This role involves high-level industrial advocacy - You will manage complex cases, provide expert advice, and represent members in negotiations and before state and federal tribunals.

You will be supported and mentored by a leader with over 20 years’ experience across multiple legal disciplines.

Key Responsibilities include:
Case Work & Advocacy
  • Manage industrial and workers compensation cases with autonomy
  • Provide expert advice on industrial instruments and legislative frameworks
  • Negotiate outcomes with employers
  • Represent members in tribunals and formal proceedings
  • Develop strategies for resolution
  • Identify and support campaign opportunities arising from member issues
  • Drive and support member growth, retention and campaigns
Leadership & Team Development
  • Mentor and support less experienced Industrial Officers
  • Contribute to staff development and capability building
  • Collaborate with Organising, Membership, and Communications teams
About you:
  • Previous union experience with a strong alignment with union values and public sector advocacy
  • Passionate about work that improves working conditions and builds collective power
  • Extensive experience in industrial relations, workers compensation, or legal advocacy
  • Strong knowledge of industrial relations legislation and systems
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads under pressureExperience appearing before tribunals or similar bodies
  • Demonstrated capacity to build trust and effective working relationships with members, employers and other stakeholders
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to mentoring others
  • Current SA drivers licence

The salary will be based on level of experience and will range from $105,747 to $134,956 plus superannuationn.
