Job summary

AVT Australia, a CACI company, designs and manufactures lightweight gyrostabilised camera systems for defence and commercial use. The industrial engineer will drive continuous improvement across manufacture, analyzing processes with production, design engineering, quality and supply chain to deliver safer, higher quality and cost-efficient output.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience improving manufacturing or assembly processes in a low-to-medium volume, high-mix environment.
• Practical knowledge of Lean manufacturing, value-stream mapping, 5S, standard work, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• A demonstrated ability to use production data to define problems, test countermeasures and sustain improvements.
• Experience developing production documentation, process controls, tooling or workstation improvements.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operators, technicians, engineers, suppliers and managers.
• A hands-on, organised and adaptable approach suited to a growing SME.

Responsibilities

• Lead Lean and data-driven continuous improvement initiatives from problem definition through to verified results.
• Map workflows and analyse cycle time, takt, capacity, yield, rework and downtime to identify bottlenecks and waste.
• Improve assembly, alignment, calibration, test and inspection methods for precision electro-mechanical and optical products.
• Create clear work instructions, process flows, visual controls and standard work for production teams.
• Support new product introduction and engineering changes through design-for-manufacture reviews, pilot builds, tooling and production ramp-up.
• Improve workstation design, line balance, ergonomics, material presentation and factory flow.
• Partner with Quality and Engineering on root-cause analysis and effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and validate fixtures, jigs, gauges, error-proofing and appropriate low-cost automation.
• Establish useful production metrics, quantify benefits and communicate performance, capacity and risks.
• Coach production personnel in standard work and practical problem-solving while providing responsive day-to-day engineering support.

About the Role:

We are seeking an Industrial Engineer to drive continuous improvement across the manufacture of advanced gyrostabilised camera systems. Reporting to the Production Engineering Lead, you will analyse processes, remove constraints and implement practical solutions that improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost. You will work closely with production, design engineering, quality and supply chain teams to turn improvement opportunities into sustainable standard practice.

Essential experience and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience improving manufacturing or assembly processes in a low-to-medium volume, high-mix environment.

Practical knowledge of Lean manufacturing, value-stream mapping, 5S, standard work, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

A demonstrated ability to use production data to define problems, test countermeasures and sustain improvements.

Highly Regarded

Experience with precision electro-mechanical assembly, optics, motion-control products, inertial systems, aerospace, defence or similarly regulated technology.

Familiarity with calibration, functional testing, traceability, configuration-controlled manufacturing and engineering change management.

Knowledge of statistical process control, design of experiments, process capability or capacity modelling.

Experience with CAD, ERP/MRP, manufacturing execution, quality management or data-visualisation systems.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or an equivalent improvement qualification.

Applicants must have full, permanent work rights in Australia. Compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is applicable to this role. Applicants must be able to obtain National Police and other related security clearances that apply to the role.
