Job summary

seek.com.au is assisting a Sydney family to recruit caring nurses or support workers for home-based care of a child with severe cerebral palsy. The role includes nursing tasks, transporting the child to appointments, managing medications, and light household duties in a non-hospital setting.

Ideal candidates are RN/EN or experienced disability support workers with CPR, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check; ABN and insurance may be required.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse or enrolled nurse or experienced disability support worker
• Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Current full Australian driver\'s license and confident safe driving skills
• Willing to regularly drive wheelchair accessible van
• Working with children check (or willingness to obtain)
• Willing to do short courses (e.g. seizure training)
• Own ABN and Professional Indemnity/Public Liability Insurance (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

• Delivering nursing care to the child in the home and community, including medication administration, tube feeding, seizure management, suctioning, nappies, showers
• Driving the child to appointments in the family vehicle
• Pro-active health monitoring and reporting changes to the family and team
• Providing companionship and ensuring child comfort and safety
• Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records

About Us

We are a married couple with three children. Our son is aged eleven and has severe cerebral palsy. He requires 24/7 care. He has a team of nurses and support workers who help us to look after him in the family home. We are now looking to add another nurse and another support worker to his care team.

The care team collaborate to enrich our son’s life by helping him to stay well, safe and included in family and community activities. It involves driving him to regular appointments, to and from school, implementing a home exercise routine and a medication regime.

About You

We are seeking a passionate skilled professional who is committed to delivering high-quality, personalised care. The successful candidate will be sensitive to the home environment and open to learning from the family and healthcare professionals.

Your Qualifications

• Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse or Experienced Disability Support Worker
• Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering nursing care to the child in the home and community. This includes administering medication, tube feeding, seizure management, suctioning, nappy changes, showering and other essential tasks.
• Driving the child to and from appointments in the family vehicle.
• Pro-actively monitoring health and wellbeing. Reporting any changes or concerns to the family and the rest of the team.
• Providing companionship and ensuring the child is comfortable and safe.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
• Light housework.

Work is in our family home with all its joys and messiness. This is not a hospital environment. Our home is a 25 minute walk from the local train station and buses are not regular, so your own car to get here is helpful.

Shift Times

• Availability for some or all of the following:
• Weekday mornings: 7AM to 10:30 - 11:00AM (varies slightly)
• Weekday afternoons: 2:30PM to 7:30 PM
• Occasional Saturday mornings or afternoons for training
• All day shifts may be available during school holidays
• Shifts can be regular and reliable with occasional extra work
• This job is not suitable if you have another job that is on a rotating roster
