Job summary

Hydro Tasmania is seeking a Hydrographer to collect, analyze and maintain hydrometric data supporting decision-making, flood forecasting, regulatory compliance and asset management. You will balance field-based work with data processing, reporting to the Remote Monitoring Supervisor, and mentoring junior team members.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Hydrography or equivalent.
• Hydrographic field experience including installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
• Strong fault-finding, testing, diagnostics and technical reporting capabilities.
• Ability to swim and perform a range of physical tasks in outdoor conditions and remote areas.
• Mentor junior team members and drive continuous improvement in hydrographic standards.

About the role

As a Hydrographer, you’ll collect, analyse and maintain critical hydrometric data that supports operational decision-making, flood forecasting, regulatory compliance and asset management. Reporting to the Remote Monitoring Supervisor, you’ll enjoy a balance of field-based hydrographic work with technical troubleshooting and data processing. You will be a leader in safety with an eye for detail whilst contributing to project delivery and mentoring of junior team members.

This role offers variety and autonomy across a diverse range of field and technical activities. Hydro Tasmania is committed to utilising industry-leading technology and continually invests in both innovative equipment and the development of its people to enhance capability and expertise. We also allocate significant resources to maintaining our monitoring assets to a high standard, ensuring safety, reliability, data quality and operational excellence across our network.

Salary range $94,400 – $118,561 plus super

• Hydrographic field experience, including installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
• Strong fault-finding, testing, diagnostics and technical reporting capabilities.
• Ability to mentor team members, manage workflows and contribute to asset management and reliability outcomes.
• Ability to swim and perform a range of physical tasks in changing outdoor conditions, including working in and around water environments and at times in remote areas.
