Job summary

Talent Insights Group is seeking a Staff/Principal Software Engineer (Kotlin/Java/React) for a 6-month contract in Sydney, offered on a hybrid basis. You will shape the platform architecture, lead across backend services, APIs and frontend applications, and mentor engineering teams while staying hands-on.

You will collaborate with product, data and other stakeholders to deliver modular, scalable systems and data-driven features, with emphasis on AI-assisted development and modern engineering

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating at Staff, Principal or equivalent senior technical leadership level.
• Strong backend, APIs and microservices experience with frontend awareness.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Hands-on engineering approach with ability to mentor and set standards.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and agentic engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and architecture across complex apps, APIs and microservices.
• Shape platform architecture, modularize large systems, and guide technical direction.
• Stay hands-on with backend, APIs, integrations and frontend work.
• Collaborate with product, data and other stakeholders to craft pragmatic solutions.
• Contribute to data-heavy initiatives, reporting and data-driven features.
• Define engineering standards and best practices across teams.
• Mentor engineers and raise delivery quality across the org.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability and DX.
• Explore AI-assisted development and agentic workflows.
