Job summary

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is seeking a rising communications professional to shape the voice of an iconic animal welfare brand. Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Digital, you’ll uncover stories, shape priority communications and build earned-media presence with the CEO and leadership team.

You’ll translate complex information into engaging narratives, manage campaigns, and use data to improve outcomes, while aligning with AWLQ values and animal welfare at heart.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in media relations, public relations, corporate communications or journalism; strong writing/campaign portfolio.
• Exceptional writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• The judgment to manage sensitive information and approvals for reputation/issues communications.
• Turn complex operational info into clear, engaging stories that move people to care and act.
• Strong relationship-building with media, leaders, frontline teams and partners.
• Curiosity about data and performance to improve communications and content decisions.
• Confidence using modern communications tools, CMS/CRM/EDM or AI tools.
• Excellent planning and prioritisation to manage concurrent briefs.

Responsibilities

• Media relations and PR: build relationships with journalists, prepare releases and pitches.
• Editorial and copy: write/edit content for campaigns, publications, newsletters, EDMs and websites.
• Internal and external communications: develop messaging frameworks for audiences.
• Leadership storytelling: identify stories with CEO and leaders for public communications.
• Reputation and issues: apply brand protocols and support designated spokespeople.
• Content, data and innovation: use insights to improve content and test new production methods.
