The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role ensures that HVAC systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. The HVAC technician must be skilled in diagnostics, customer service, and technical repair, often working independently or as part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation & Setup

• Install new HVAC systems including ductwork, thermostats, and controls.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Maintenance & Repair

• Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and repair HVAC systems accordingly.
• Replace or repair defective components such as compressors, motors, fans, and thermostats.

System Testing & Compliance

• Test systems for proper functioning using specialised tools and gauges.
• Ensure systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.

Customer Service & Documentation

• Communicate effectively with clients regarding system issues and solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.

Emergency Response

• Respond to emergency service calls during and outside of regular business hours.
• Troubleshoot urgent HVAC issues to restore service promptly.

Knowledge Transfer:

• Transfer knowledge to other staff, including apprentices and trainees.

Equipment and Supplies Management:

• Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet MBSFM and legislative health and safety standards.
• Handle and transport materials and equipment that require physical strength and stamina.

Administrative Duties:

• Keep accurate timesheets, descriptions of work performed, and records of materials used.

Other Duties:

• Perform other duties that are safe to do so and within your skill set.

Physical Requirements - (HVAC Technician)

• Strength and Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials and equipment. Endurance to work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
• Tolerance for working in confined spaces, on rooftops, and in varying weather conditions.
• Visual acuity to read gauges, instruments, and blueprints.
• Hearing ability to detect system malfunctions and communicate effectively.
• Safety Compliance:Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety protocols to prevent injuries.

Academic or Trade Qualifications

Minimum Requirement is a completed and/or Licenced Trade Qualification.
