Job summary

Aireplus in Ormeau is seeking a hands-on HVAC Designer/Draftsperson to take drawings from concept through workshop and installation level. You will own drafting work, coordinate with the delivery team, and help translate drawings into coordinated installations across supermarket and retail projects.

You will work across two to three projects, with strong AutoCAD or Revit capability and a practical understanding of on-site installation needs. Travel across SEQ will be involved.

Job description

We’re looking for a hands-on HVAC Designer / Draftsperson who enjoys producing drawings from concept design through to workshop and installation level using BIM software, solving practical design challenges and staying involved as projects move through construction.

Based predominantly in Ormeau, this role combines HVAC drafting, understanding, project coordination, construction, and site involvement. You’ll typically work across two to three concurrent projects, predominantly in the supermarket and retail sectors.

The role

You’ll take ownership of your drafting and design work and work closely with the delivery team to help turn drawings into practical, coordinated installations. Responsibilities include:

Producing and updating HVAC drawings using AutoCAD or Revit to a workshop / installation level.

Developing practical layouts that account for installation, access, maintenance and coordination with other trades.

Supporting design‑and‑construct delivery by identifying issues, proposing solutions and following through on actions.

Coordinating with project team, site personnel, consultants and subcontractors.

Attending sites to understand conditions, resolve queries and support construction project manager and installation team.

Managing competing priorities across projects and anticipating what needs to happen next to keep the flow of design and coordination.

The role includes project coordination and delivery responsibilities, working alongside the Design & Project Manager.

About you

You bring strong HVAC design and fabrication drafting skills, sound design understanding and an appreciation of how your work affects construction on site.

Strong AutoCAD or Revit capability and the ability to complete drafting work to a coordinated workshop fabrication and installation level.

Relevant experience in HVAC or mechanical building services.

Practical understanding of HVAC systems and installation requirements.

Experience supporting projects through design and construction.

The ability to coordinate tasks and follow through across several active projects.

Clear communication skills and the confidence to raise issues and contribute ideas.

Willingness to attend sites across Brisbane and Southeast Queensland, with occasional travel elsewhere in Queensland.

Revit capability will be highly regarded, particularly if you can help expand the team’s existing skills. Supermarket or retail project experience would also be an advantage.

Just as important is your approach: you’re proactive, collaborative and willing to pitch in where needed. You take responsibility, ask questions and speak up when something needs attention.
