Beyond Electrical Engineering (BEE) invites applications for a HV Commissioning Technician. The role delivers safe, reliable HV inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault response across BEE projects and client sites in Australia.

This field position requires travel to remote project locations, strong safety culture, and clear communication with clients and project teams. You will interpret drawings, prepare reports and participate in outage planning.

Qualifications

• HV Switching Ticket / HV Operating Ticket required.
• Willingness to travel to remote project and client site locations.
• Electrical trade qualification with experience in high voltage environments and safe work practices.
• 3–5 years minimum post-trade HV inspection, testing, commissioning and fault-finding experience.
• Sound knowledge of HV equipment, systems, and safe work practices including switching, isolation, and test procedures.
• Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, implement protection settings and test plans.
• Experience with electrical testing equipment and preparing accurate test reports and commissioning documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risk and apply controls in high-risk electrical work.

Responsibilities

• Perform HV inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault-finding on electrical assets and systems.
• Complete works on HV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cables, substations and associated control systems.
• Ensure switching, isolation, access and testing activities comply with legislation and procedures.
• Review test results and site conditions to support technical decisions.
• Support troubleshooting and fault response with diagnosis and return-to-service plans.
• Prepare accurate test reports, service records and commissioning documentation.
• Provide input into job planning, outage preparation and resource requirements.
• Communicate progress, risks and issues clearly to the Service Team Lead and clients.
• Assist with HV test plan development and reporting to client specs.

The Role

The HV Commissioning Technician reports directly to the Service Team Lead and is responsible for the safe, reliable and high-quality delivery of high voltage inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault response activities across Beyond Electrical Engineering (BEE) projects, service contracts and client sites.

This is a technical field role, accountable for performing and leading complex HV works in accordance with legislation, client requirements, BEE procedures, safety systems and industry standards. The role supports service delivery through technical expertise, clear communication with clients and project teams, and proactive identification of operational and electrical risks.

Responsibilities for the role include:

• Performing HV inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault-finding activities on electrical assets and systems.
• Completing works on HV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cables, substations and associated control systems.
• Ensuring switching, isolation, access and testing activities are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, network rules, client requirements and authorised procedures.
• Reviewing work methods, test results and site conditions to support sound technical decisions.
• Supporting troubleshooting and fault response activities, including diagnosis, rectification planning and return-to-service recommendations.
• Preparing accurate test reports, service records, commissioning documentation, defect reports and handover information.
• Providing practical technical input into job planning, outage preparation, resource requirements and work sequencing.
• Communicating progress, risks, defects and technical issues clearly to the Service Team Lead, project teams and clients.
• Assist with Development, reviewing and executing HV test plans, including identifying required test activities, equipment, safety controls, acceptance criteria and reporting requirements to ensure testing is completed safely, accurately and in accordance with client specifications and standards.
