Job summary

DEMEX on the Gold Coast seeks a proactive HSEQ Coordinator to drive safety governance across demolition, remediation and civil projects. You will report to the National HSEQ Manager and work with project teams to ensure WHS compliance and client requirements.

Responsibilities include inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, inductions and safety training while supporting ISO management systems and strengthening the safety culture.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in HSEQ or related safety roles.
• Formal qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation (OFSC, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001).
• Experience conducting inspections, audits, risk assessments and investigations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate workers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine workplace inspections, audits and compliance assessments across projects.
• Inspect plant, equipment, tools and PPE for safety compliance.
• Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to minimise risk.
• Monitor SWMS, permit-to-work systems and site safety procedures.
• Provide WHS advice and consultation to workers and teams.
• Investigate incidents, injuries, hazards and near misses.
• Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety training programs.
• Verify emergency plans and safety resources; support ISO management systems.
• Assist with safety campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

As an HSEQ Coordinator, you'll report directly to our National HSEQ Manager and partner with project teams to ensure safe project execution and compliance with WHS legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting routine workplace inspections, audits and compliance assessments across demolition, remedial, civil and mining projects.

• Inspecting plant, equipment, machinery, tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to verify compliance with safety standards and legislative requirements.

• Identifying workplace hazards and implementing corrective and preventative actions to minimise risk.

• Monitoring work activities to ensure workers and subcontractors comply with approved Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), permit-to-work systems and site safety procedures.

• Providing WHS advice, information and consultation to workers, supervisors and project teams.

• Conducting incident, injury, hazard and near miss investigations, including identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.

• Delivering site-specific inductions, mobile plant inductions, toolbox talks and safety training programs.

• Verifying emergency response plans, first aid facilities, fire protection equipment, hazardous substance registers and site safety resources.

• Supporting the maintenance of ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

• Assisting with safety campaigns and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen workplace health and safety culture.

• Preparing inspection reports, risk assessments and compliance documentation required for internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a proactive, detail-focused HSEQ professional who thrives in construction and heavy industry environments. You'll have:

• 3+ years' experience in HSEQ, WHS, Safety Coordinator, Safety Inspector or similar workplace safety roles.

• Formal qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety.

• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and compliance frameworks (OFSC, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001).

• Demonstrated experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.

• Experience preparing WHS documentation and implementing risk controls.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate and influence workers and subcontractors.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and WHS management systems.

• White Card (General Construction Induction).

• Additional training in auditing, risk management or incident investigation (desirable).

• Mental Health First Aid accreditation (desirable).
