- Providing coaching, advice and support to business unit managers and supervisors on hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work method statements and the hierarchy of controls
- Leading incident, near miss and hazard reporting, including investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking and regulator notification where required
- Planning and conducting internal HSE audits, workplace inspections and management system reviews, and driving closure of findings
- Managing contractor and visitor HSE requirements, including prequalification, induction and site access controls
- Overseeing plant, hazardous chemicals, noise, welding fume, manual handling, working at heights and other high-risk work controls across our manufacturing and industrial sites
- Overseeing environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions, spill response and licence and registration obligations
- Managing workers’ compensation claims, injury management and return to work programs in conjunction with the insurer and relevant business units
- Overseeing emergency management arrangements, including emergency plans, warden training and drills
- Coordinating worker consultation and participation, including health and safety representatives and WHS committees
- Developing and delivering HSE training and tracking competency, licence and ticket currency across the workforce
- Reporting lead and lag HSE performance indicators to senior management, and recommending improvements and resourcing
- Supervising and developing the HSE and WHS coordinators and supporting site-level HSE representatives
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in a senior HSE or WHS role within manufacturing, engineering, heavy industry, construction or a similar high-risk environment
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, or a Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety, with a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Strong working knowledge of Queensland WHS and environmental legislation, with an understanding of the requirements in Victoria being highly regarded
- Practical experience developing, implementing and auditing safety management systems aligned to ISO 45001, and an understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
- Proven ability to investigate incidents, undertake risk assessments and implement effective, sustainable controls
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the credibility and confidence to engage workers, supervisors, contractors and executives
- Sound judgement, high attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple business units and sites
- Competent Microsoft Office and general business systems capability, with experience in safety reporting or management systems an advantage
- A current Queensland driver’s licence, and a willingness to travel to our sites as required
- Lead auditor certification, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or experience in workers’ compensation and injury management is desirable
What We Offer
- Permanent full-time employment in a senior position
- A competitive remuneration package based on experience and qualifications
- A broad and varied role with genuine influence over HSE outcomes and culture across the group
- The opportunity to shape and lead the group’s Integrated Management System and certification program
- The backing and stability of an established, diversified engineering and industrial services group
