Job summary

Zenergy Group, in partnership with an established renewable energy contractor, seeks an experienced HSE Manager for a major utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System project in regional New South Wales.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will drive the development and delivery of HSE requirements across construction, commissioning and handover, leading field teams, subcontractors and client representatives to maintain safety standards and environmental controls on site.

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Site-based HSE Manager experience on major construction or EPC projects.
• Experience with utility-scale BESS, solar, substations, or transmission projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NSW WHS legislation and environmental compliance.
• Proven incident investigations, audits, and emergency response capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Construction White Card, Australian driver's license, and first aid.
• Full Australian working rights.

Responsibilities

• Provide field-based HSE leadership across construction and commissioning.

Zenergy is partnering with an established renewable energy contractor to recruit an experienced HSE Manager for a major utility scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in regional New South Wales.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior safety professional with experience across renewable energy, electrical infrastructure or major construction projects to play a key role in the safe delivery of critical energy infrastructure.

About the Role

Reporting to senior project leadership, you will take responsibility for the implementation and management of HSE requirements across construction, commissioning and project handover.

Working closely with project teams, subcontractors and client representatives, you will provide hands-on HSE leadership, ensuring high-risk activities are effectively managed and project safety and environmental standards are maintained throughout delivery.

This position will suit an experienced HSE Manager who enjoys being present in the field, engaging with construction teams and driving positive safety outcomes across complex project environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visible, field-based HSE leadership and promote a proactive safety culture across the project.
• Implement and maintain project HSE management systems, safety plans and environmental controls.
• Lead inspections, audits, critical-control verification and corrective action management.
• Oversee high-risk construction activities, including mobile plant, excavation, working at heights and electrical/HV works.
• Manage subcontractor HSE performance, compliance and ongoing assurance activities.
• Coordinate incident investigations, emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
• Maintain HSE reporting, registers and compliance documentation.
• Liaise with project stakeholders, client representatives and regulatory bodies on HSE matters.

About You

• Diploma or tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience as a site-based HSE Manager across major construction, infrastructure or EPC projects.
• Experience across utility-scale BESS, solar, renewable energy, substations or transmission projects highly regarded.
• Strong understanding of NSW WHS legislation and environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience managing high-risk construction activities, contractor assurance and critical safety controls.
• Demonstrated capability in incident investigations, emergency preparedness, inspections and audits.
• Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills.
• Construction White Card, current Australian driver's licence and first aid qualification.
• Full Australian working rights.
