Your opportunity
The State HSE Advisor provides practical HSE advice across multiple assigned projects within the region, supporting tenders, project mobilisation and set-up, and day-to-day site delivery. The role facilitates risk assessments, verifies controls, supports investigations and coaches supervisors, embedding RSGx’s Safety culture across projects. Reporting to the Senior HSE Manager – East, the role seeks specialist advice when matters exceed its competence.
Statewide Project Support
- Provide HSE advisory support across multiple assigned projects across Melbourne and regionally, working on-site Monday to Friday on a planned rotation rather than being embedded full-time in a single project team
- Maintain consistency of HSE standards and practice across multiple project teams, flagging site-specific risks or resourcing gaps
Tenders and Project Mobilisation
- Support tender submissions with HSE input, including risk assessments, method statements and compliance documentation
- Support project mobilisation and set-up, including establishing site HSE systems, inductions and documentation ahead of handover to the project team
Safety Systems & Compliance
- Implement RSGx’s HSE management system on the project in line with client and regulatory requirements, drawing on functional support from Senior HSE Manager
- Facilitate risk assessments and verify the effectiveness of controls on site. Support permit to work, isolation and high-risk activity controls
- Maintain accurate HSE records and reporting in line with governance requirements
- Support incident and near-miss reporting, investigation and corrective action tracking
- Coach supervisors and crews on hazard identification and reporting
- Seek specialist advice when a matter exceeds the role’s competence
- Escalate serious hazards or incidents to the Project Manager promptly, and to Senior HSE Manager where technical or systemic input is required
Training & Culture
- Deliver or coordinate site inductions and toolbox talks and promote RSGx’s Safety culture through visible presence on site
- Support project teams to build practical, workable safety plans and JHAs.
- Provide accurate HSE performance reporting to the Project Manager, and functional reporting to Senior HSE Manager
- Identify trends in incidents, hazards and near misses to inform improvement actions
- Support close out of corrective actions arising from audits and investigations
About you
Bringing experience in an HSE advisory role on construction or resources projects facilitating risk assessments and conducting incident investigations, and experience using Procore or a similar system for HSE reporting and records. Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety completed; ICAM qualified, in addition to;
- Sound working knowledge of HSE legislation, standards and site safety requirements
- Strong observation and analytical skills when conducting inspections and investigations
- Clear communication and coaching skills when engaging crews, supervisors and junior HSEQ staff
- Well organised with the ability to manage records, audits and reporting deadlines
- A practical, credible approach that earns the trust of site teams
- Calm and methodical approach when responding to incidents
- Working towards, or willing to commence, a Diploma of WHS (pathway to Senior HSE Advisor)
- Experience on mine site or resources sector projects
- Exposure to HV or high-risk electrical work environments
