Job description

Payday is everyone's favourite day of the week, and you're the reason it goes smoothly, just as you're the reason our people feel looked after each day. Own both payroll and HR for 150+ people across QLD & NSW, with your focus split between the two as the business needs.

The role

PCA is growing fast, and our people and payroll functions need dedicated, hands‑on leadership to grow with us. This role sits within our Finance, People & IT department, which operates as a shared services function supporting the wider business.

Based at our Arundel head office on the Gold Coast, you'll get exposure across all areas of HR, Payroll and Recruitment for 150+ team members across Queensland and New South Wales. Both HR and Payroll will be a genuine focus, with your time split between the two depending on operational requirements and needs.

This is a hands‑on role: you'll be in the detail alongside your team, not just directing from above.

Day to day, you'll split your time between:

You'll work hands‑on with our existing team, currently one in HR, one in Recruitment and two in Payroll, escalating matters to the department head, hiring managers or directors as necessary.

Manage Single Touch Payroll, superannuation (including Payday Super), PAYG withholding, termination pay, long service leave and EOFY finalisation

Keep payroll tax, portable long service leave and WorkCover and icare obligations on track across both states

Reconcile payroll to the general ledger each pay cycle and at month end

Spot and elevate Award or compliance risks early, and keep the business across legislative changes

Some of the must-haves

5+ years' experience in a similar role

Working knowledge of the Building and Construction General On‑site Award 2020 and how to apply it

Familiarity with the Clerks - Private Sector Award 2020 and the Professional Employees Award 2020

Solid knowledge of the Fair Work Act and National Employment Standards, including how workplace disputes are handled

Knowledge of portable long service leave compliance and lodgements

Knowledge of WorkCover Queensland and icare NSW claims and administration

Understanding of Services Australia and Child Support (CSA) processes, such as parental leave and child support payments

Practical HR know-how: contract generation, performance management and internal reviews

Knowledge of visa sponsorship

Confidence with SharePoint and Microsoft 365, including Excel

A hands‑on approach to leading and developing a small team, and the discretion to handle sensitive information with care

Collaborative, and a genuine team player, comfortable working closely within an established team

Hands‑on experience with Employment Hero

Experience with HRIS systems

Payroll experience in construction, civil, engineering or another project‑based industry

Experience with recruitment, staff retention or staff attraction policies

A tertiary qualification in accounting, business or HR, or a Certified Practising Payroll Professional (CPPP) accreditation

What's in it for you?

A collaborative team environment, and the chance to lead and develop a team as it grows

Competitive remuneration, based on your experience

Your wellbeing comes first: confidential EAP access, 24/7, for every PCA employee
