Centacare is looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our People & Culture team for a six-month contract.
This is a hands‑on generalist position for someone who enjoys supporting managers, working through day‑to‑day people matters and helping ensure HR processes are handled fairly, consistently and professionally.
Reporting to the General Manager – People & Culture, you’ll work as part of a collaborative team and provide practical advice across employee relations, performance, workplace concerns, organisational change and broader HR activities.
You’ll have support around you, but you’ll also be trusted to take ownership of matters, prepare documentation, coordinate next steps and follow actions through to completion.
This role could suit an experienced HR Advisor, People & Culture Advisor or HR generalist who is confident managing operational HR matters and is ready to continue building their advisory capability.
Centacare is a purpose‑led, not‑for‑profit organisation supporting individuals, children and families across Queensland.
Our services are available to the whole community, regardless of religion, background, circumstances, age, gender or ability.
We work alongside people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage, helping them strengthen relationships, navigate challenges and achieve meaningful goals.
Behind those services is a large and diverse workforce — and a People & Culture team committed to giving managers and employees practical, responsive and thoughtful support.
As HR Advisor, you’ll support managers and leaders across a broad range of people matters.
One day, you may be helping a manager prepare for a performance conversation. The next, you could be drafting correspondence, responding to an employee concern, reviewing an Award question or supporting a workplace process.
The role offers plenty of variety and a strong opportunity to deepen your experience across employee relations, industrial relations and generalist HR.
You’ll work closely with more senior members of the People & Culture team on complex or higher‑risk matters, while independently managing day‑to‑day advisory work within your level of experience.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being useful, responsive and close to the work.
Your responsibilities may include:
You’re a practical HR professional who enjoys helping people work through real workplace issues.
You communicate clearly, stay calm when matters are sensitive and know when to resolve something yourself and when to seek more senior support.
You’re comfortable with both the people side and the administrative detail of HR — because you understand that good advice only works when the process and documentation are also handled properly.
You’ll ideally bring:
You don’t need to have managed every type of HR matter independently.
What matters is that you bring solid foundations, good judgement, a willingness to learn and the confidence to provide practical support.
This six-month opportunity offers the chance to broaden your HR experience within a large, diverse and purpose‑led organisation.
You’ll join a supportive People & Culture team, work across a variety of employee and workplace matters and continue developing your advisory capability.
You’ll also enjoy:
Centacare is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable people and maintains zero tolerance for abuse.
Our recruitment process includes relevant pre‑employment screening, including referee and criminal history checks. A Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or other role‑relevant screening may also be required.
