Job summary

Omega Medical is seeking a Social Worker (HP4) in North West Queensland. The contract runs ASAP through 16 Oct 2026, with 7.5-hour days, Mon–Fri, and provided accommodation and travel support.

The role involves inpatient and outpatient caseloads, working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive social work services and patient-centred care.

Qualifications

• Experience in inpatient and outpatient social work settings preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary staff.
• Willingness to travel within North West Queensland as required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct social work assessments and coordinate care across inpatient and outpatient wards, including ED and paediatrics.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support discharge planning and patient advocacy.

Client Description

Level 4 Specialist Service Base Hospital with a total of 80 beds. It is the referral hospital

for the North West region of QLD. It has a Royal Flying Doctor Service base providing rural retrievals, transfers and numerous primary health care activities. the Hospital has undergone a redevelopment which included a new Emergency Department, new Outpatients Department, Mental Health Outpatient) Unit, a Cancer Care Centre and a Paediatrics Unit. Services include - Accident and Emergency; Aged Care; Anaesthetics; Community Health; Day Surgery; Dental Care; Dietetics; Family Planning; General Medicine, General Surgery, Intensive Care, Maternity; Medical Imaging inc. CT, USS, Echo; Mental Health; Occupational Therapy; Oncology; Outpatients; Paediatrics; Palliative Care; Pathology; Pharmacy; Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Renal Unit; Sexual Health; Social Work; Speech and Therapy.

Requirements

• Hours would be 0800-1630 Monday to Friday with 1 hour unpaid break (7.5 hours per day)
• Accommodation can be provided for the candidate for the length of contract
• Up to $1000 (incl. GST) will be reimbursed to assist relocation to Mount Isa
• Working across inpatient and outpatient caseloads including inpatient adult & paediatric wards and ED, outpatient adults and paediatrics.
• Working amongst the multidisciplinary team which is young and dynamic. The team regularly plan weekend adventures including camping, rodeos, and local events like wine festivals, balls, markets, and sporting events. We even hold an Allied Health Ball every year to celebrate all Allied Health Clinicians in North West Queensland. We have a few gyms in town including a yoga studio, Anytime Fitness, pilates studio, a public pool and plenty of outdoor walking areas. There are cafes, a library, Kmart, Woolies and Coles, Harvey Norman, and a couple of specialty stores. The area is surrounded by cattle stations and you can even feed some camels just down the road from the Hospital! There’s a large freshwater lake 10km out of town where people regularly paddleboard, water ski, swim, and kayak to get their water fix, and there’s lots of water holes/water falls that can be visited after wet season to keep cool.
• There are daily flights to Brisbane and Townsville and some direct flights throughout the week to Cairns.
