Job summary

TransAlta Australia seeks a High Voltage Technician to join the North Goldfields team in Western Australia on a FIFO roster. You will execute HV switching, outages, and capital projects while adhering to safety policies and the Work Management Process.

The role requires an HV Switching Operator endorsement, electrical trade qualification, Electrical Workers Licence, and HR driver’s license. You will work on-site with a FIFO arrangement and contribute to a safe, reliable power supply.

• Certifications: EWP, Working at Heights and Confined Space.

Responsibilities

• Operate HV switching per MSIR 1995.
• Comply with safety policies, standards and procedures.
• Maintain and plan work per Work Management Process.
• Plan major and routine outages.
• Plan, organize and deliver Capital Works Projects.
• Troubleshoot plant equipment to restore power.
• Provide detailed maintenance reports.
• Train new staff as required.
• Supervise contract support staff.

ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta Australia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Canadian-based TransAlta Corporation, currently operates and maintains 6 power stations in Western Australia. With a 25-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean, and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and driven HV Technician to join our team in the North Goldfields region of Western Australia!

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• HV Switching Operator per 5.18 MSIR 1995
• Compliance with all TransAlta Safety Policies, Standards, and Procedures
• Maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
• Planning of Major and routine outages
• Planning, organising and delivery of Capital Works Projects
• Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration
• Provide detailed reports during routine maintenance tasks and unplanned maintenance events
• Training of new staff members as required
• Supervision of contract support staff ensuring safe work standards are maintained
• Other duties as required and commensurate with role and qualifications

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

• HV Switching Operator endorsement
• Trade Qualified in electrical discipline or higher
• Electrical Workers License
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment
• Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spreadsheet, and databases) are required
• Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights, and within confined spaces
• Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and P&IDdrawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams
• Working knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution
• Experience in Protection Systems
• HR driver's license is essential
• EWP, Working at Heights and Confined Space certifications

Nice to Haves

• Heavy industrial HV experience is highly desirable
• Experience with solar farms and/or battery storage
• Experience with SAP or other Work Management software

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Police Clearance (within the last six months)
• Undertake pre-employment medical
• Right to work in Australia
