Job summary

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development NSW is seeking a Heritage Officer to join the Heritage Environment and Planning (HEP) team. The role delivers high-quality built heritage advisory and planning projects for government clients and supports business operations across the unit.

You will manage deliverables for heritage management plans (CMPs, SOHIs, HAMS), conduct site inspections, engage with clients and coordinating specialists, and provide guidance on approvals for

Qualifications

  • Experience in built heritage conservation and heritage planning and policy in NSW.
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing heritage management documents, specialist heritage reporting, and related business duties.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, meet deadlines and seek advice from other team members when needed.
  • Ability to work constructively with colleagues, customers and consultants, as appropriate to the context or requirements of the project.
  • Experience in records management.
  • Experience as a heritage specialist in construction projects will be an advantage.
  • Ability to process information, analyse situations, synthesise, and specify actions, and to communicate effectively, verbally or in written form.
  • Ability to undertake key administration tasks (such as invoicing, programming, tendering etc) as directed by senior staff, and to acquire proficiency with using business management tools (notably or project management system) as directed.
  • Driver's Licence and willingness to travel around the state, sometimes staying overnight.
  • High level knowledge, capability and experience in Microsoft applications in the Office 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
  • Proficient CAD skills to document project works, amend drawings etc. are desirable though not essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage key deliverables in production of heritage management plans (CMPs, SOHIs, HAMS etc).
  • Conduct site inspections and engage directly with clients.
  • Coordinate involvement of other staff or consultants for specialist input.
  • Advise and assist clients with approvals for works to heritage items.
  • Support project teams to deliver capital projects in the heritage space.
  • Assist our environmental planning team in planning assessment work.
