Job summary

Downer is seeking a Herbicide Technician to support vegetation management programs across regional South Australia, based in Port Augusta or Port Pirie. The role is outdoor and hands‑on, offering autonomy and the chance to positively impact environments and communities.

The ideal candidate has ChemCert/ACUP accreditation (or willingness to obtain), a driver licence (HR Licence desirable), and experience in herbicide application and environmental compliance. This is a physical, outdoor role.`

Qualifications

• Current ChemCert or ACUP accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
• Minimum MR Driver Licence (HR Licence highly regarded).
• Experience in herbicide application, vegetation management, land management or a related field.
• Knowledge of safe chemical handling and environmental compliance practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• A proactive safety‑first attitude.
• Physically fit, reliable and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Safely mix, prepare and apply herbicides using hand‑held, backpack and vehicle‑mounted spraying equipment.
• Identify invasive weed species and determine appropriate treatment methods.
• Complete spray records, treatment reports and equipment logs accurately.
• Conduct routine inspections, maintenance and calibration of spraying equipment.
• Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental and legislative requirements.
• Work closely with supervisors, landholders, contractors and stakeholders to deliver effective vegetation management outcomes.
