Job summary

Hornby Transport Services is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic for our Unanderra depot. You will service and repair a modern fleet, including Kenworth, Western Star and Freightliner trucks powered by Cummins engines, with trailers in the mix.

You will diagnose faults, perform maintenance, and work both independently and within a supportive team. A trade qualification and a current HR or higher licence are essential, with on-site rosters and overtime as applicable.

Qualifications

• Qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic with valid trade certification.
• Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience in heavy vehicles.
• HR or higher driver's licence is required.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills and detail-oriented approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Proven time management and safety-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and breakdowns.
• Work on a variety of heavy vehicle makes and models.
• Attend breakdowns onsite and offsite when required.
• Identify problems and develop practical repair solutions.
• Accurately record parts used and work completed.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and safety.
• Work independently while contributing to the wider team.
