Job summary

Hornby Transport Services Pty Ltd. in Thornton, VIC is seeking a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our team at the Thornton depot.

This full-time position offers a base rate of $50–$60 per hour, with overtime on offer, and exposure to a modern fleet including Kenworth, Western Star and Freightliner trucks powered by Cummins. You will perform servicing, diagnostics and repairs across a range of heavy vehicles, both on-site and off-site as needed, while recording parts and work performed

Qualifications

• Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade qualification
• Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience
• HR or higher driver's licence
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Good attention to detail and time management
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to accurately record work completed and parts used
• A positive, reliable and safety-focused attitude

Responsibilities

• Carrying out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults and breakdowns
• Working on a variety of heavy vehicle makes and models
• Attending breakdowns onsite and offsite when required
• Identifying problems and developing practical repair solutions
• Accurately recording parts used and work completed
• Working safely and maintaining a high standard of workmanship
• Working independently when required while contributing positively to the wider team
