Job summary

WesTrac, a leading Caterpillar dealer, is hiring a Heavy Diesel Mechanic for the FlexiCooling Workshop in Perth, WA. You will deliver advanced cooling system refurbishments and radiator exchanges across Caterpillar and mixed equipment, helping reduce downtime and improve fleet reliability.

Qualifications

• Australian-recognised Heavy Mobile Plant, Heavy Diesel, or Mechanical Trade Certificate.
• Dogging Certificate or willingness to obtain before commencement.
• Experience working on cooling systems, radiators, or heat exchange components (highly regarded).

Responsibilities

• Complete rebuilds and overhauls on Caterpillar heavy earthmoving equipment and non-Caterpillar machinery.
• Perform machine dismantling, undercarriage repairs, and radiator repairs.
• Strictly adhere to WesTrac's safety protocols, including PPE usage and hazard reporting.

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our specialised FlexiCooling Workshop, a high-performance environment focused on advanced cooling system refurbishment and exchange solutions.

About the Role

This is not your standard workshop role. As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic in our specialised FlexiCooling Workshop, you'll play a critical role in keeping mining fleets running at peak performance by delivering advanced cooling system solutions across Caterpillar and mixed equipment.

Working within WesTrac's Flexi Parts division, you'll be part of a high-performing team using state-of-the-art ultrasonic cleaning technology and a plug-and-play exchange module program to restore and replace radiators, aftercoolers, and cooling components with speed and precision. Your work will directly reduce customer downtime, improve reliability, and optimise maintenance outcomes across large-scale operations.

This role offers the opportunity to move beyond traditional mechanical work and build expertise in a specialist, high-demand niche, backed by the systems, scale, and standards of a global Caterpillar dealer. Various rosters available - all enable you to be home with family every weekend!

What You’ll Do

• Complete rebuilds and overhauls on Caterpillar heavy earthmoving equipment and non-Caterpillar machinery.
• Perform machine dismantling, undercarriage repairs, and radiator repairs.
• Strictly adhere to WesTrac's safety protocols, including PPE usage and hazard reporting.

Skills and Experience

• Australian-recognised Heavy Mobile Plant, Heavy Diesel, or Mechanical Trade Certificate
• Dogging Certificate or willingness to obtain before commencement
• Experience working on cooling systems, radiators, or heat exchange components (highly regarded)
• Exposure to Caterpillar equipment or mining fleet maintenance (advantageous)
• Strong mechanical aptitude with component strip, assess, and rebuild capability
• Ability to work effectively in a team-focused, high-performance workshop
• Commitment to safety and alignment with SPARC values
