Job summary

WesTrac's Components Workshop in Perth is seeking a trade-qualified Plant Mechanic or Heavy Diesel Mechanic to service and rebuild Caterpillar components in a modern facility.

You will diagnose, repair and test engines, transmissions, hydraulics and other major systems with Safety, Pride, Accountability and Respect in daily practice. Day shift only, Monday to Friday, home every night.

Qualifications

  • Trade-qualified plant or diesel mechanic with relevant experience.
  • Experience in heavy equipment maintenance and component rebuilds.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and rebuild Caterpillar components to OEM standards.
  • Work across engines, transmissions, torque converters, hydraulics and final drives.
  • Complete strip, inspection, assembly and testing of components.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and housekeeping in the workshop.

Join WesTrac's Components Workshop at our Perth Branch and work on industry-leading Cat® equipment and major component rebuilds in a modern, well-equipped facility. This is a full-time, Perth-based role offering stability, ongoing development and the opportunity to build a long-term career with one of the world's largest Caterpillar dealers.

Department Overview

The Components Workshop plays a critical role in delivering quality rebuild and repair solutions for our customers. Reporting to the Components Supervisor, you'll work within a safety-focused team environment supported by experienced leadership, industry-leading tooling and ongoing technical training through the WesTrac Institute.

Roster

Monday to Friday | 5/2 Roster | Day Shift Only | Home Every Night

No FIFO. No rotating shifts. Enjoy a consistent work-life balance while working on Caterpillar components in a Perth-based workshop.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, repair and rebuild Caterpillar components to OEM standards.
  • Work across engines, transmissions, torque converters, cylinders, final drives, differentials and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete component strip, inspection, assembly and testing activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve component reliability and performance.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality, efficiency and housekeeping within the workshop.
About The Role

You'll join a skilled team specialising in component rebuilds and overhauls. The role offers varied and technically challenging work, with opportunities to expand your capability across a broad range of Caterpillar components.

You’ll have access to ongoing training, strong workshop support and career pathways into specialist technical, supervisory and leadership roles.

Skills & Experience
  • Trade-qualified Plant Mechanic or Heavy Diesel Mechanic.
  • Experience in heavy equipment maintenance and component rebuilds.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Qualifications / Tickets
  • Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent trade qualification.
  • LF High Risk Work Licence – desirable.
  • Dogging High Risk Work Licence – desirable.
  • Air Conditioning Licence – desirable.
