Job summary

University of New South Wales – Sydney NSW is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager, Projects to lead the Health & Safety Program of Work and drive the delivery of key initiatives across the University.

You will provide strategic leadership of governance, planning and delivery, coordinating with stakeholders across H&S Operations, Estates & Contractors, and Health & Wellbeing, while building strong relationships with senior leaders to embed improvements into operational practice.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading complex programs and projects, preferably in H&S, risk or transformation.
  • Demonstrated governance, planning, delivery and change-management track record.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the governance, planning and delivery of the Health & Safety Program of Work.
  • Drive transformational projects across multiple H&S workstreams (systems, risk, wellbeing, contractor management).
  • Establish governance, reporting frameworks, schedules and performance measures.
  • Partner with stakeholders to embed project outcomes into operational practice.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues and dependencies with mitigation paths.
  • Build relationships with senior leaders and sponsors to ensure alignment.

UNSW is undertaking a significant transformation of its Health & Safety (H&S) function, focused on strengthening safety systems, governance, risk management, organisational capability, wellbeing, and continuous improvement across the University.


We are seeking an experienced and strategic Health & Safety Manager, Projects to lead the Health & Safety Program of Work and drive the successful delivery of key projects and initiatives across the University.


Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety Performance & Improvement, and managing one direct report, you will lead a portfolio of projects that drive improvements in safety performance, systems, risk management, wellbeing and operational practices across the University. Working closely with stakeholders across H&S Operations, Estates & Contractors, and Health & Wellbeing, you will provide strategic leadership of project governance, planning and delivery, ensuring initiatives are aligned with organisational priorities, continuous improvement objectives and sustainable outcomes.


Your focus:


  • Lead the governance, planning and delivery of the Health & Safety Program of Work, ensuring alignment with University priorities and H&S objectives.

  • Drive the successful delivery of transformational projects and initiatives across multiple Health & Safety workstreams, including systems, risk, wellbeing, contractor management and operations.

  • Establish and oversee project governance, reporting frameworks, schedules and performance measures to support program delivery and benefits realisation.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Health & Safety, Estates, Contractors and Health & Wellbeing to ensure project outcomes are successfully embedded into operational practice.

  • Lead the identification and management of project risks, issues and dependencies, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation pathways.

  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, project sponsors and key stakeholders to support engagement, alignment and successful project outcomes.

  • Lead, coach and develop team members while contributing to strategic planning, organisational change and the ongoing development of Health & Safety capability across the University.


Who You Are:


  • You have extensive experience leading complex programs and projects, ideally within a Health & Safety, risk, transformation, operational improvement or related environment.

  • You hold a relevant tertiary qualification and/or project management certification, with qualifications in business, analytics or a related discipline highly regarded.

  • You have demonstrated success delivering large-scale programs of work, including governance, planning, delivery and change management.

  • You possess strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including the ability to manage risks, issues, dependencies and competing priorities.

  • You are an exceptional relationship builder, with the ability to influence and build rapport with senior leaders, supervisors, business partners and stakeholders at all levels.

  • You are an innovative and strategic thinker, with the ability to identify opportunities, solve complex problems and drive continuous improvement.

  • You have strong data and analytical capabilities, including experience translating data into meaningful insights, reporting and dashboards that support decision-making and organisational performance.
