Job summary

Southern Cross Gold Ltd is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to help build and maintain robust health and safety foundations across Kilmore and Sunday Creek operations. The role reports to the Health and Safety Manager and focuses on promoting a proactive safety culture for employees and contractors as exploration advances toward future underground mining.

You will develop and implement management systems, lead risk assessments, coordinate incidents and trainings, and help ensure compliance

Qualifications

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
• Experience in site-based health and safety, ideally within exploration/mining/construction or similar.
• Experience supporting health and safety systems, programs or initiatives.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and continual improvement of the Health and Safety Management System.
• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments with practical controls.
• Coordinate incident, injury and near-miss reporting, investigations and corrective actions.
• Coordinate inductions, training and competency records, toolbox talks to build a safety culture.

SXGC is exploring one of the most exciting new gold and antimony discoveries in Australia, with our flagship Sunday Creek project moving from surface exploration towards future underground mining. About the Role

About the Role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of SXGC’s health and safety management systems. Working closely with operational leaders, employees and contractors, you’ll help promote a proactive safety culture, support compliance with Victorian OHS legislation, and help prevent workplace injuries and incidents. Initially focused on exploration activities and surface infrastructure works, this role will establish strong health and safety foundations across current mining contractors and in preparation for future underground mining operations. The role facilitates, rather than polices safety, partnering with operational leaders, employees and contractors to identify hazards, assess risks and implement practical controls.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Drive

• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of SXGC’s Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with Victorian OHS legislation and company standards
• Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, and help develop SWPs and JSAs so leaders and contractors can implement practical controls
• Coordinate incident, injury and near-miss reporting, and support investigations and corrective action tracking
• Coordinate inductions, training and competency records, and toolbox talks that build a positive, engaged safety culture
• Manage contractor prequalification, onboarding, licences, insurances and performance reviews to keep contractor risk under control
• Support emergency preparedness, drills and equipment inspections, plus regular site visits across exploration and surface works

Your Background

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
• Experience in site-based health and safety, ideally within exploration, mining, construction or a similar industry
• Experience supporting health and safety systems, programs or initiatives
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and contractors
