Job summary

Greencross Ballarat is seeking an experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to lead and mentor the nursing team, uphold high clinical standards, and foster a collaborative, supportive culture at our Ballarat clinic.

You will stay hands-on in nursing while driving wellbeing initiatives, performance conversations, and continuous improvement across the team to ensure exceptional patient care and client service.

Qualifications

• Holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
• Has a minimum of 3+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience.
• Has previous leadership, mentoring, or senior nursing experience, or is ready to step into a leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support the veterinary nursing team.
• Mentor, train, and develop nurses across experience levels.
• Build and maintain a positive, engaged, accountable team culture.
• Identify initiatives to support team wellbeing, morale, recognition, and engagement.
• Lead by example and foster collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Address performance concerns with coaching and development plans.
• Support a culture of ownership and continuous improvement across the nursing team.
• Assist veterinarians in consultations, treatments, and procedures.
• Undertake surgical nursing, pathology, hospital nursing, and team-based consulting.
• Provide emergency and critical care nursing support when required.
• Support workflow management and operational efficiency.
• Assist with administrative and reception duties when required.
• Handle client enquiries professionally in person, by phone, and via email.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with Practice Manager.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and clinic performance.
