Greencross Vets Wishart Road is seeking an experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to lead and mentor our nursing team at our Brisbane clinic. The role combines leadership with hands-on clinical nursing to uphold high patient care standards.
You will mentor nurses, support veterinarians, manage stock, and drive efficient workflows while continuing to develop your leadership and clinical skills in a supportive, values-driven environment.
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is required.
- Minimum 3+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience.
- Leadership/mentoring experience or readiness to step into a leadership role.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the veterinary nursing team.
- Mentor, train, and develop nurses at all experience levels.
- Support veterinarians in consultations, treatments and procedures.
- Undertake surgical nursing, pathology, hospital nursing and team-based consulting.
- Provide emergency and critical care nursing support.
- Manage stock and inventory to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Support workflow management and operational efficiency; assist with admin duties.
- Handle client inquiries in person, by phone and via email.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance with the Practice Manager.
- Identify opportunities to improve clinic processes and performance.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supporting the veterinary nursing team

This role offers the ideal combination of leadership, mentorship, and hands‑on nursing.
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
- Has a minimum of 3+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience
- Has previous leadership, mentoring, or senior nursing experience, or is ready to step into a leadership role
- Enjoys coaching and developing other nurses
- Has strong surgical nursing and anaesthetic monitoring skills
- Demonstrates excellent organisational and time‑management abilities
- Is calm, friendly, empathetic, and professional
- Has strong communication and customer service skills
- Leads with positivity and a team‑first attitude
- Has experience with RxWorks (desirable but not essential)
