Statewide Clinical Support Services (SCSS) in Adelaide is seeking a Head Sonographer to lead the Unit, oversee daily operations, planning and resource management to ensure patient-centred care with clinical excellence.

About the role

As Head Sonographer, you will play a pivotal role in leading our Unit and creating an environment where people, patients and clinical excellence come first. You will oversee the efficient day-to-day operation of the Unit, providing thoughtful leadership across the planning, coordination and management of physical and human resources. Working within organisational policies, procedures and professional guidelines, you will support a high-performing team while fostering a culture of collaboration, quality and continuous improvement.

You will also champion professional excellence across the Unit, inspiring our sonographers to grow, learn and deliver exceptional standards of care. A key part of your role will be supporting and promoting research and educational opportunities for all professional staff, helping to build knowledge, develop capability and encourage innovation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sonographer and people leader to make a meaningful contribution to both the team and the wider profession.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated sonography leader who combines strong clinical expertise with confident people leadership, sound judgement and a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.

• Qualified and experienced: Accredited Medical Sonographer registered with the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR), with relevant postgraduate education and extensive senior-level sonography and imaging experience.

• An inspiring leader: Demonstrated leadership, decision-making and clinical management skills, with the ability to motivate and support staff, manage competing priorities, resolve conflict and foster a positive team culture.

• A strong communicator and change leader: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organisation, respond positively to change and lead others through departmental improvements.

• Committed to quality, safety and professional excellence: Experience in accreditation, quality improvement, policy development, performance review and postgraduate education, together with a strong understanding of contemporary management, risk management, Work Health and Safety and relevant public sector requirements.
