Job summary

ProFound People in Sydney, NSW, is seeking a Head of Engineering to own the development of an advanced manufacturing tool from the ground up, spanning mechanical, electrical, software, controls, metrology, and automation.

You will translate ambitious goals into realistic plans, decide on key technical directions, report risks to the executive team, mentor a high‑caliber engineering group, and drive fast yet rigorous development with strong documentation and data‑driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Have independently led engineering teams delivering complex precision manufacturing tools or equipment.
• Can turn ambitious technical goals into realistic plans, milestones, and risk registers.
• Experience delivering hardware systems on aggressive timelines.
• Broad technical fluency across precision manufacturing processes.
• Experience with precision motion, sensing, control, metrology, or industrial automation systems.
• Hands on with the technical work, senior enough to lead through people and process.
• Strong communicator across executives, engineers, partners, and customers.
• Track record taking tools from concept to prototype to volume production.
• Experience with high throughput processing, precision alignment, or advanced material handling.
• Exposure to complex electromechanical or process equipment development.
• Experience scaling teams from informal to structured.
• Background in customer driven product environments, not just research.

Responsibilities

• Translate company goals and technical vision into engineering plans, milestones, resourcing, and delivery schedules
• Own key technical decisions across tool design, fabrication, integration, testing, and productisation
• Report delivery status, risks, and trade offs to the executive team
• Oversee design and integration of all critical subsystems
• Manage critical suppliers, OEMs, and subcontractors
• Hire, mentor, and grow a high performing engineering team
• Set standards for engineering process, technical discipline, and accountability
• Drive fast but rigorous development cycles with strong documentation and data driven decisions
