Job summary

Regenerate Talent Pty is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the in-house engineering function for a Battery Energy Storage portfolio in Sydney. This senior role sets technical standards, governs design, and drives scalable delivery across development to commissioning.

You will build and lead a high‑performance team, own lifecycle engineering decisions, and partner with Grid and operations to ensure safe, reliable assets and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical, power systems or a related engineering discipline.
• 15+ years in utility-scale electrical infrastructure (BESS, solar, wind, substations or generation).
• 5+ years leading engineering teams or an owner’s engineering function.
• Experience across the full asset lifecycle with technical decision accountability.
• Knowledge of NEM connection, AEMO registration and GPS under the NER.
• Strong understanding of BESS systems: PCS, power plant controllers, SCADA and controls.
• Commitment to safety and ability to make confident technical calls under pressure.
• Willingness to travel to project sites across NEM states.
• Desirable: CPEng and/or NER registration, electrical licence or HV switching qualifications.

• Own technical standards, design basis, specifications and sign-offs across every project phase.
• Direct engineering input into site feasibility, technology selection, tendering and contractor selection.
• Lead the owner’s engineering function through construction and commissioning, including FAT/SAT and energisation.
• Work closely with the Grid team on connection, registration and Generator Performance Standards.
• Own the technical handover to operations and feed lessons learned back into future designs.
• Champion safety in design, electrical safety, and switching and isolation discipline.

We’re recruiting for a Head of Engineering to build and lead the in-house engineering function at a fast-growing renewable energy storage business, backed by a global sustainable infrastructure investor. This is a rare chance to be the senior technical authority across a portfolio of utility-scale and distributed battery storage assets, from early development through construction, commissioning and ongoing performance. With a large multi-gigawatt pipeline ahead, you’ll set the standards, shape the team, and make the delivery model repeatable as the business scales. This is an exciting leadership position with an n dustry leading company with a very bright future forseeable, with a seat at the leadership table reporting into the executive team.

• A genuine commitment to safety and the ability to make confident technical calls under pressure
• Willingness to travel to project sites across NEM states

Desirable: CPEng and/or NER registration, an electrical licence or HV switching qualifications, and experience scaling an engineering function.
