Job summary

SEQ Drilling is seeking a skilled HDD Rig Hand to join our team on full-time, on-site in Queensland. You will assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of HDD drilling equipment, supporting the operator, and ensuring safety on site.

The ideal candidate is physically fit, reliable, and a strong team player with good communication. A White Card and HR licence are preferred, and travel to various sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Proven HDD Rig Hand experience in drilling or construction.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety standards on site.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in varied weather.
• Reliable, punctual, and a good team player with clear communication.
• HR driver’s licence and willingness to travel to sites as required.
• White Card or Construction Induction certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of HDD drilling equipment on site.
• Support HDD Operator with guidance system monitoring and rod handling.
• Prepare and manage drilling fluid systems for optimal conditions.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections and report safety hazards.
• Follow PPE and WHS protocols; support site safety.
• Position and secure drilling rigs for operations.
• Assist with rod makeup and breakout during drilling.
• Maintain and clean equipment to keep it in good condition.
• Collaborate with crew to ensure smooth operations.
• Operate excavators, vacuum trucks and other heavy vehicles.

Job description

SEQ Drilling is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious HDD Rig Hand to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time position working on horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations, which are essential to modern infrastructure development. As an HDD Rig Hand, you will play a crucial role in the successful execution of drilling projects, working alongside experienced operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality drilling operations. This role is integral to our company's ability to deliver projects on time and to specification, supporting the continued development of essential utilities and infrastructure across Queensland and beyond.

Key responsibilities

Assisting with the setup, operation, and maintenance of HDD drilling equipment and machinery on site

Supporting the HDD Operator in all aspects of drilling operations, including guidance system monitoring and rod handling

Preparing and managing drilling fluid systems to ensure optimal drilling conditions

Conducting pre-shift equipment inspections and reporting any mechanical issues or safety hazards

Assisting with site safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to work health and safety standards

Helping to position and secure drilling rigs in preparation for operations

Assisting with rod breakout and makeup procedures during drilling operations

Contributing to the maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working condition

Supporting crew members in a collaborative and professional manner

Operation of Excavators, Vacuum trucks and heavy vehicles

What we're looking for

Proven experience as an HDD Rig Hand or similar heavy machinery operator role in the construction or drilling sector

Excellent safety awareness and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards on site

Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour in varied weather conditions

Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player with excellent communication skills

A valid HR driver's licence and willingness to travel to various sites as required

Relevant industry certifications such as a White Card (Construction Induction Card) or equivalent

Experience with drilling fluid management and site preparation would be advantageous
