Job summary

Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure NSW – Sydney CBD NSW is seeking a Waste Management Officer (Part-time, temporary up to 3 years) to lead waste reduction initiatives across iconic public spaces. You will analyse data, coordinate with tenants, contractors and partners, and deliver practical improvements from planning through delivery.

The role requires tertiary qualifications in waste/sustainability and offers flexible working arrangements in a collaborative, inclusive NSW public

Qualifications

• Experience in waste management, resource recovery, environmental sustainability or a related area.
• Experience coordinating environmental, sustainability or operational improvement projects, with strong planning and project management skills.
• Strong analytical skills, with experience using performance data and reporting to identify trends and inform continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders and encourage positive behaviour change.
• Experience working with contractors, service providers or operational contracts, with an understanding of monitoring delivery and performance.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities while balancing environmental objectives, operational requirements and visitor outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Improve waste management across Sydney harbourside destinations and deliver waste reduction and litter prevention initiatives.
• Analyse performance data and work with tenants, contractors, event organisers and community partners to create practical improvements across public spaces.
• Take projects from planning through to delivery and support behaviour change initiatives.
• Help improve waste services, infrastructure and operational practices while balancing sustainability goals with operational needs and visitor experience.
