Job summary

Collaborating with plastic surgeons, therapists and pathology experts, you’ll ensure integrated care from injury through rehabilitation, documenting progress and pursuing ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
• Registration with AHPRA and a minimum of 2 years’ hand therapy or upper limb rehabilitation experience
• Strong understanding of upper limb anatomy and pathologies
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with patients and multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

WPRS is seeking a passionate and experienced Hand Therapist to join our dynamic team at a new location in Ballarat. As a Hand Therapist, you will play a crucial role in providing specialised care and rehabilitation to patients with upper limb conditions and injuries. This is a full-time position, offering the opportunity to work in a collaborative and supportive environment.

A key feature of this role is working alongside our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons within a multidisciplinary clinical model. Our hand therapy service is integrated with surgical care at WPRS, providing direct access to surgical expertise, coordinated treatment planning, and seamless patient pathways from injury through to rehabilitation.

What you'll be doing

• Evaluate and assess patients with upper limb conditions and injuries, developing comprehensive treatment plans to promote recovery and restore function
• Provide hands-on treatment techniques such as splinting, manual therapy, and exercise prescription
• Work closely with our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons within a joint multidisciplinary clinic model to ensure streamlined, coordinated, and timely patient care
• Collaborate with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and surgeons to deliver holistic management and optimise patient outcomes
• Educate patients on the management of their condition and empower them to actively participate in their rehabilitation
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, adhering to professional and legal standards
• Participate in continuous professional development to stay up to date with the latest evidence-based practices in hand therapy

What we're looking for

• Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy, with a strong interest and experience in hand therapy
• Registration with the appropriate professional body (AHPRA) and a minimum of 2 years' experience in a hand therapy or upper limb rehabilitation setting
• Excellent clinical assessment and treatment skills, with a deep understanding of upper limb anatomy and pathologies
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, surgeons, and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care, and a passion for continuous learning and professional development
