Job description

Lead and elevate the finance function of a growing Australian business group.

Golden Hire Recruitment is partnering with an established and expanding organisation operating across construction, labour hire, projects and related services. With a diverse portfolio and ambitious growth plans—including organic expansion, strategic partnerships and acquisitions—the group is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Group Finance Manager.

This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to a finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys improving systems, strengthening controls and contributing directly to business performance. Multi‑entity experience and exposure to acquisitions are highly desirable.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, you will take full ownership of the group’s finance function, ensuring strong financial management, accurate reporting and clear visibility of performance across multiple entities.

You will play a key role in building scalable financial infrastructure, introducing efficiencies and establishing consistent processes that support continued expansion. A structured transition period with the current internal finance lead will allow you to progressively assume full responsibility. As the organisation grows, you will have scope to build and lead additional finance resources.

This role suits a Finance Manager, Group Finance Manager or Financial Controller seeking a blend of operational finance, commercial involvement and strategic improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead financial operations across multiple entities.
  • Deliver accurate month‑end and year‑end reporting.
  • Prepare management accounts, financial statements and performance reports.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger integrity and intercompany transactions.
  • Implement consistent reporting standards across the group.
  • Provide meaningful financial insights to senior leadership.
Cash Flow, Budgeting & Commercial Finance
  • Manage group cash flow, working capital and forecasting.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify risks.
  • Analyse profitability, margins and operational performance.
  • Support commercial decision‑making and identify efficiency opportunities.
Financial Operations & Controls
  • Oversee AP, AR, payroll and daily financial transactions.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support compliance requirements and liaise with external advisers.
  • Streamline processes and reduce manual administration.
  • Ensure finance operations remain scalable as the business grows.
Acquisitions & Integration
  • Provide financial analysis for acquisitions and new business opportunities.
  • Assist with due diligence and commercial assessments.
  • Support integration of newly acquired entities.
  • Establish consistent accounting, reporting and control frameworks.
  • Assist with system, banking and reporting integration.
Systems, Process Improvement & Leadership
  • Own finance systems and drive automation and improvement.
  • Optimise Xero, Excel and reporting tools.
  • Develop documented processes that support consistency across entities.
  • Build a finance function capable of supporting a larger, more complex group.
  • Contribute to future team structure as the organisation expands.
About You

  • Advanced Excel skills; strong Xero and Microsoft 365 capability.
  • Experience improving systems, processes and controls.
  • Strong commercial acumen and communication skills.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
  • Degree qualified OR CA/CPA qualification essential
  • Experience in construction, labour hire or project‑based environments advantageous.
