Job summary

Wesley Mission Queensland is seeking an attentive grounds assistant to maintain gardens across multiple sites. You will help with landscaping and refurbishment works, while ensuring safety for residents and staff.

Clear communication with elderly residents is essential as you perform garden tasks and advise on plant care. The role emphasizes environmentally friendly practices and ongoing learning about new equipment and maintenance techniques.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering grounds, gardens and environmental services, preferably in care settings.
• Strong verbal and written communication with residents and team members.
• Knowledge of safe handling, storage and use of pesticides and related chemicals.
• Understanding of modern plant care practices and maintenance methods.
• Commitment to safety, quality, equal opportunity and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing gardens and assist with new landscaping projects around the site.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents while performing garden tasks.
• Operate motorized garden equipment safely and maintain equipment knowledge.
• Apply environmentally friendly garden management practices.
• Support minor maintenance, repairs and refurbishment works as needed.
