Job summary

Network Rail Consulting (NRC) in Sydney invites applications from recently graduated engineers to join our three-year Graduate Development Program. About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Graduate Engineer with a passion for building a career in the rail industry to join our growing Sydney team.

As part of our structured three-year Graduate Development Program, you will gain hands‑on experience across a diverse range of rail projects, rotate through different disciplines every six months, and undertake a fully supported six‑week UK immersion placement with our parent company, Network Rail. This unique opportunity provides international exposure, access to industry-leading rail expertise, and the chance to build a global professional network.

You will hold a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Civil or Systems Engineering and have strong communication, report‑writing and teamwork skills, along with a commitment to continuous learning and development.

Working alongside experienced consultants and technical specialists, you will develop the technical, commercial and consultancy skills needed to establish a successful long‑term career in the rail sector.

Throughout the program, you will gain exposure to:

  • Advisory & Strategic Planning;
  • Railway Operations;
  • Asset Management & Maintenance; and
  • Project & Program Management.

You will contribute to a broad range of activities, including research and analytical project work, developing technical requirements, and supporting the preparation of bids and proposals.

About you
  • You will need to be an Australian citizen;
  • Recently completed, or be in your final year of a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Civil or Systems Engineering;
  • Strong interest in building a career in rail consulting;
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, responsibilities and deadlines;
  • Reliable, committed and professional in the workplace;
  • Motivated by personal and professional development;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven report ‑ writing capability; and
  • Results ‑ focused with strong attention to detail.
