Job summary

Southern Oil Refining (SOR) is an Australian growing company with two re-refineries in Gladstone QLD and Wagga Wagga NSW. We are seeking a graduate chemical engineer to join the operations team, based in NSW or QLD, with flexibility to work at both sites.

You will spend time in operations, process monitoring, optimization and small projects, reporting to the Refinery Manager, and develop the skills to excel in the oil recycling industry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical engineering with 0–3 years of industry experience.
• Willingness to work across NSW and QLD sites, and travel as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Daily process monitoring and performance analysis.
• Site optimisation focusing on yield and energy efficiency.
• Design and management of small projects and procedures.
• Collaborate with operations staff to identify issues and implement improvements.
• Review PIDs, maintenance plans and operating procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and drive continuous improvement.

Southern Oil Refining (SOR) is a rapidly growing company that provides cradle-to-cradle recycling solution for used lubricating oil generated within Australia. The company operates two oil re-refineries located in Gladstone QLD and Wagga Wagga NSW.

An exciting opportunity is available for a new or recently graduated chemical engineer to work with Southern Oil Refining, the largest privately owned oil refinery in Australia.

Due to continued success in this sector SOR is looking for a graduate chemical engineer to join the operations team based in NSW or QLD with flexibility to spend time at both sites. We pride our selves on developing and equipping young engineers with skills and experience to excel within the company and their broader careers.

Initially reporting to the Refinery Manager, you will spend time working in operations, process monitoring/optimisationand small projects across the businesses various endeavours.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Daily process and failure monitoring
• Plant optimisation with regard to yield maximisation and energy efficiency
• Engineering design and management of small-scale projects
• Working closely with operations staff to understand problems, develop solutions and drive improvements
• Review and updating of operating procedures, PIDs and Maintenance Plans
• Risk Assessment and Management
• Investigating problems and identifying practical opportunities for improvement

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical engineering with 0–3 years of industry experience
• Capability to work autonomously and within teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
