Job Description

Job Description

Be part of Victoria's last great story of growth

Mitchell Shire is where the city meets the country. Located just 40 minutes north of Melbourne, we're home to thriving townships, beautiful natural landscapes and some of Australia's fastest-growing communities.

With a current population of more than 64,000 residents and forecast growth to over 220,000 by 2046, there has never been a more exciting time to join Mitchell Shire Council. As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to make a genuine difference to our community and help shape the future of one of Victoria's most dynamic municipalities.

At Mitchell Shire Council, you'll be part of a progressive, inclusive and supportive organisation that values collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we work as One Mitchell, guided by our values of Trusted, Engaged and Innovative.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Team Leader of Roads Maintenance, you'll be a key contributor within Mitchell Shire Council's Roads Maintenance works team, bringing specialist plant operating skills that complement and strengthen the delivery of high-quality road maintenance activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing on-the-job guidance, supervision, and training to team members and relief operators
  • Assisting with resource estimates and contributing to annual maintenance program planning
  • Ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained to manufacturer specifications and safe operating standards
  • Maintaining accurate records across safety, quality assurance, and environmental requirements
  • Delivering strong customer service to both internal and external stakeholders

You’ll also assist other teams across the business as directed, making this a varied, hands‑on role at the heart of how Mitchell Shire maintains and improves its road network.

This is a permanent, full‑time opportunity with a fortnightly RDO. Remuneration begins at $78.3K to $81.8K (Band 4) plus superannuation.

In return you’ll enjoy
  • Flexible work arrangements where operationally possible
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Program support
  • A values‑driven and supportive workplace culture
  • The opportunity to contribute to one of Victoria's fastest‑growing municipalities
  • Meaningful work that makes a difference to our community
About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong hands‑on plant operating skills with a natural ability to guide and motivate those around them — someone who leads by example and takes ownership of both the work and the team's wellbeing. You'll be a reliable communicator who takes pride in delivering quality outcomes for the Mitchell Shire community, and who brings a disciplined, safety‑first approach to every task on the ground.

  • Demonstrated (certification desirable) experience in operation of plant (as listed) and tools including, grinders, chainsaw, demo saws, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in prioritising works for self and small teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of small to medium size works.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide accurate resource estimates.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining records in support of OH&S, quality assurance, environmental accreditation, and other requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience to use computers including Microsoft excel, Microsoft word and outlook (desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience in road maintenance activities.
