The Opportunity

As the Governance and Policy Coordinator at the City of Perth,you will oversee the City’s governance function and coordinate ateam of governance professionals to support effectivedecision-making, legislative compliance and organisationalassurance.

Reporting to the Alliance Manager Governance and Policy withinour Governance and Strategy team, your responsibilities wouldprimarily include:

• Overseeing the City’s governance frameworks, policies,procedures and registers to ensure legislative compliance andalignment with Council decisions and better-practicestandards;
• Coordinating Council and Committee processes, including thepreparation and quality assurance of agendas, reports, briefingmaterials and minutes;
• Providing authoritative advice on governance, probity,compliance and legislative matters to the Executive LeadershipTeam, Elected Members and senior stakeholders; and
• Coordinating governance, electoral, audit and assuranceactivities while supporting the capability and performance ofthe Governance and Policy team.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

• Extensive knowledge of governance and electoralrequirements within a local government environment, includingthe ability to interpret and apply the Local Government Act,local laws, policies and regulatory frameworks;
• Extensive experience supporting Council and Committeeprocesses, including the coordination and quality assurance ofagendas, minutes and decision-making documentation;
• Strong experience in governance systems, policy developmentand document management, including the application oflegislative and accountability frameworks;
• Highly developed written and interpersonal communicationskills, with the ability to prepare complex governancedocumentation and provide clear, professional advice to a rangeof stakeholders;
• Demonstrated experience coordinating and supportingprofessional teams within a collaborative, accountable andhigh-performing environment;
• Sound judgement and discretion when managing confidential,sensitive or high-risk governance matters; and
• A tertiary qualification in Law, Governance, PublicAdministration or a related discipline, or substantialequivalent experience.
