Castlemaine Golf Club Inc. invites applications for a Golf Course Superintendent to replace our retiring long-standing Super.

Reporting to the Course Coordinator, the Superintendent will plan, coordinate and supervise all aspects of golf course maintenance and presentation. The successful applicant will undertake daily work programs, supervise construction and improvement projects, manage irrigation and turf health, and ensure the course is presented to the highest possible standard for members

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or 10+ years in the sports turf industry.
• Current Chemical Accreditation.
• Current Chainsaw operator certificate.
• Current Driver's Licence.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supervising staff and volunteers.
• Sound knowledge of irrigation systems, troubleshooting and repairs.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement daily, weekly and seasonal maintenance programs.
• Supervise and coordinate daily work schedules and volunteer activities to maximise efficiency.
• Maintain exceptional playing surfaces including greens, tees, fairways and surrounds.
• Monitor turf health and manage disease, pest and weed programs.
• Plan and implement chemical and fertilizer application programs.
• Support continual improvement of the golf course through renovation and construction projects.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
• Work with the Greens Committee to develop and manage plans and budgets.

Castlemaine Golf Club was founded in 1899 and is therefore one of the oldest clubs in Australia. At its present location since 1941, the course winds through scenic bushland with majestic trees and splendid vistas. The 6006 metre, par 72 course has no bunkers but is a challenge for golfers of all abilities. The Club has a focus on continually improving the turf surfaces with a successful program of changing fairways to Santa Ana couch underway.

An exciting opportunity now exists for an enthusiastic Golf Course Superintendent to replace our retiring, long-standing Super.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Course Coordinator, the Superintendent will assist with planning, coordinating and supervising all aspects of golf course maintenance and presentation.

The successful applicant will undertake daily work programs, supervise construction and improvement projects, manage irrigation and turf health, and ensure the course is presented to the highest possible standard for members and guests.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced turf professional looking to be front and centre in the management and improvement of a smaller, regional course in a relaxed and friendly Club.

Key Responsibilities

Course Maintenance & Presentation

• Develop and implement daily, weekly and seasonal maintenance programs.
• Supervise and coordinate daily work schedules and volunteer activities to maximise efficiency and course presentation.
• Maintain exceptional playing surfaces including greens, tees, fairways and surrounds.
• Monitor turf health and manage disease, pest and weed programs.
• Plan and implement chemical and fertilizer application programs.
• Support the continual improvement of the golf course through renovation and construction projects.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
• Work with the Greens Committee to develop and manage plans and budgets.

Irrigation & Equipment

• Manage the operation, programming and maintenance of the automated irrigation system.
• Diagnose and repair irrigation faults as required.
• Ensure machinery, tools and maintenance facilities are maintained in a clean, organised and safe condition.
• Coordinate machinery servicing and repairs. Undertake minor maintenance and repairs.
• Health, Safety & Environmental Management
• Promote and enforce Workplace Health & Safety procedures.
• Use environmental best practices in chemical handling and compliance requirements.
• Maintain accurate records relating to chemical applications, irrigation and maintenance activities, and also training and inductions.

About You

The successful applicant will possess:

• Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or at least 10 years’ experience in the sports turf industry
• Current Chemical Accreditation.
• Current Chainsaw operator certificate
• Current Driver's Licence.
• Demonstrated experience in golf course maintenance.
• Experience leading or supervising staff and volunteers
• Sound knowledge of irrigation systems, troubleshooting and repairs.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good knowledge of warm and cool season turf management.
• Construction and golf course renovation experience.
• Experience operating a wide range of turf maintenance equipment.
