Job summary

VALD is seeking a Payroll Manager to deliver accurate, compliant payroll globally across Australia, the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. The role includes onboarding/offboarding, contract drafting, and system setup.

You will lead a small payroll team, optimize controls, and partner with CFO, Finance, Legal and IT to scale a global payroll function. The ideal candidate has 4+ years in payroll, multi-country experience and strong communication skills to explain payslips clearly.

Qualifications

• At least two years running end-to-end payroll cycles and statutory payroll obligations for a multi-jurisdiction employer.
• Technical depth in at least one jurisdiction’s statutory payroll framework (e.g. Australia PAYG or US payroll) with ability to learn new jurisdictions.
• Experience building/strengthening payroll controls and managing payroll providers.
• Experience administering employee lifecycle processes for a multi-country workforce.
• Process-driven mindset with experience leading or coaching a payroll team member.
• Payroll qualification or recognition will be highly regarded.
• Meticulous, highly organized and discreet with confidential pay data; strong judgement on escalation.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll cycles across all relevant jurisdictions; resolve payroll queries.
• Own payroll compliance in every country; handle tax, superannuation, leave, filings and registrations.
• Configure and maintain payroll settings; reflect award rates and leave accruals.
• Manage pay/titles/incentives changes, workers’ comp and final pay with proper tax treatment.
• Maintain payroll controls and audit readiness; flag and address compliance risks.
• Coordinate payroll providers and platforms; support new country implementations.
• Fund and reconcile pay runs across currencies; support reporting and month-end
• Conduct onboarding and offboarding to defined workflows; draft contracts and set up systems
• Lead and mentor direct report; document procedures for continuity during leaves.
