Job summary

WSP in Sydney seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to join its Geotechnics & Tunnels team. You will work across site investigations, tunnelling and major infrastructure projects, contributing from early investigations through construction.

The role offers exposure to diverse ground conditions and client engagements in a collaborative, supportive environment. You're a motivated geotechnical professional with a degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering and 2+ years of field experience.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 2+ years' experience in geotechnical engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong field experience including soil logging, sampling, site investigations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; contributes to technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver geotechnical investigations from site reconnaissance to reporting.
  • Interpret geotechnical data and contribute to design recommendations and risk assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports and support design documentation for projects.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers on scoping and delivery.
  • Support proposals with technical inputs and cost estimates.
  • Engage with clients on technical queries and project updates.
  • Provide guidance to technicians and junior team members.

Responsibilities
What you'll do

You'll be hands‑on across a diverse range of geotechnical and tunnelling projects, supporting delivery from early investigations through to construction. Your work will include:

  • Planning and delivering geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, fieldwork, sampling, logging and in-situ testing
  • Interpreting geotechnical data and contributing to design recommendations and risk assessments
  • Preparing technical reports and supporting design documentation for small to medium projects
  • Working closely with senior engineers and project managers on investigation scoping, methodologies and project delivery
  • Supporting proposals and tenders, including technical inputs and cost estimates
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and engaging directly with clients on technical queries and project updates
  • Providing guidance to technicians and junior team members in both field and office environments

You'll balance time between site and office, gaining exposure to a broad range of ground conditions, project types and clients.

Qualifications
About you

You're a motivated geotechnical engineer who enjoys solving real-world problems and working as part of a collaborative team. You'll bring:

  • A degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Around 2+ years' experience in geotechnical engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong field experience, including soil logging, sampling and site investigations
  • Exposure to investigation techniques such as CPTs, boreholes, test pits and in-situ testing
  • Well-developed analytical skills and the ability to interpret geotechnical data
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with experience contributing to technical reports
  • A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required
  • Eligibility for (or progress toward) Engineers Australia membership
