Job summary

WSP in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, is seeking an Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer with at least 2 years of rock core logging experience to join our Geotechnical & Tunnels team. The role balances hands-on fieldwork with design input and client delivery on major infrastructure projects.

You’ll work under a Principal level Engineering Geologist, grow technically, and benefit from clear career pathways in a global network. SEQ assignments include rosters and camp housing.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Geology, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
• 2–7 years of geological or geotechnical field work.
• Rock core logging experience—minimum 2 years.
• Experience in site work, core logging and remote conditions.
• Current Australian driver's licence; 4WD experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, logging and advanced in-situ testing.
• Manage contractors and implement health and safety controls.
• Liaise with project team, contractors, and client to ensure successful delivery of projects.
• Prepare daily field records, borehole logs, and in-situ test reports.
• Analyse geotechnical and geological data to inform design and construction outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on infrastructure projects.
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
• Receive overtime pay and per diems for time spent working on initial project site rosters.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the field programs for large infrastructure jobs around SEQ. The initial assignment involves rig supervision for a project northwest of Brisbane, where you will work a10 on 4 off roster, housed at a fully serviced camp site. You will work closely with other members from WSP, contractors, and client delivery teams with your input adding to the successful delivery of the project. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your technical skills as you will be working under the close guidance of a Principal level Engineering Geologist with a high level of technical core logging being required.

What you’ll do

About you

• Degree qualified inGeology, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
• 2 to 7 years of experiencein geological or geotechnical field work.
• Rock core logging experience required (minimum 2 years).
• Be experienced in site work, core logging, and working in remote conditions.
• Strong grounding in soil and rock mechanics and site investigation practices.
• Confident communicator with developing technical writing skills.
• Some 4WD experience preferred, current Australian driver's licence required.
