Job summary

Catalyst Metals is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to provide hands-on geotechnical support across underground and open pit operations in Central Western Australia. You will work with the mining team to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable production and contribute to the Plutonic Gold Belt development.

The role involves design input, ground support, seismic analysis, and numerical modelling while staying aligned with WA safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Current C Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Relevant experience in the mining industry.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office and Deswik essential.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Familiar with Dips & Unwedge Geotechnical software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide geotechnical support across underground and open pit operations.
  • Contribute to mine design, scheduling and ground control plans.
  • Design and monitor ground support; assess performance and risk.
  • Investigate geotechnical occurrences and make recommendations.
  • Carry out geotechnical evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Conduct geotechnical core logging for drill programs.
  • Support seismic data processing, analysis and reporting.
  • Review and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
  • Deliver ground awareness training to site personnel.
  • Perform Geotechnical Numerical Modelling as required.
  • Ensure compliance with WA WHS Act 2020 and Mines Regulations 2022.

Join Catalyst Metals, an Australian gold mining and development company listed on the ASX (CYL), and play a key role in the continued growth of our flagship Plutonic Gold Belt in Central Western Australia.

Spanning approximately 40km, the Plutonic Gold Belt is entering an exciting phase of development, with three new projects planned over the next 12–18 months. This is an opportunity to join the team at an important stage of the operation and contribute to the development of future mining projects.

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide hands‑on geotechnical support across both underground and open pit operations, working closely with the broader mining team to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable production.

You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of geotechnical challenges while contributing to the ongoing development of the Plutonic operation.

This role will suit a Geotechnical Engineer who enjoys being involved in the operation, solving practical problems and working collaboratively with mining teams to deliver safe and effective outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide geotechnical support and assistance to the operation, ensuring that the operation complies with all the relevant company and statutory requirements.
  • Provide geotechnical input to the mine design and scheduling process.
  • Support the mining engineers with the design and implementation of optimal stopes, spans and pillars.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of the geotechnical designs.
  • Design the ground support and monitor its performance.
  • Investigate geotechnical occurrences and make recommendations.
  • Carry out geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments and make geotechnical recommendations.
  • Conduct geotechnical core logging of both existing and planned drilling.
  • Provide support with seismic data processing, analysis & reporting.
  • Review and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
  • Deliver ground awareness to site personnel.
  • Conduct Geotechnical Numerical Modelling as required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WA Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and WA Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Relevant experience in the mining industry.
