Job summary

Macquarie Geotechnical Pty Ltd is seeking a Geotechnical Driller – Residential to join its site investigation team across Regional NSW. You will perform shallow subsurface investigations, sample soils, and log profiles for residential and small commercial projects, using Ute-mounted or compact rigs.

This full-time role follows a 6-month probation. NSW White Card and a current C-class licence are required, with potential for a truck licence considered a bonus.

Qualifications

• Perform shallow subsurface investigations and soil sampling to AS1726/AS2870/AS1547 standards.
• Operate 4WD ute-mounted/compact rig across Regional NSW.
• Maintain and service drilling machinery and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate drilling equipment safely to complete shallow boreholes (1.5m–3.0m).
• Accurately sample and log soil profiles.
• Conduct in-situ testing (DCP, pocket penetrometer).
• Record detailed field logs and site sketches.
• Liaise with site supervisors, builders, and clients on-site.
• Maintain and service equipment daily.

Job description

Macquarie Geotechnical is a Geotechnical Consulting / Drilling & Construction Materials Testing company working on both civil and mining infrastructure projects throughout Australia. We maintain a fleet of modern drill rigs, support equipment and tools that are at the forefront of the industry.

Due to increasing demand for our services, we are currently seeking suitable regional based candidates based in the Central West NSW for an immediate start in the following position:

• Geotechnical Driller – Residential

We are looking for a Geotechnical Driller or Geologist to join our growing site investigation team. In this role, you will perform shallow subsurface investigations and soil sampling for residential and small commercial, infrastructure projects in accordance with AS1726, AS2870 and AS1547 standards. You will utilise a 4WD Ute-mounted / compact truck-mounted rig, travelling across Regional NSW to sample and log soil profiles.

The position is based on full-time employment for the successful candidate, following positive completion of a 6-month probation period.

Key Responsibilities:

• - Operate drilling equipment safely to complete shallow boreholes (typically 1.5m to 3.0m deep) across residential allotments, small commercial developments and infrastructure projects.
• - Accurately sample and log soil profiles.
• - Conduct in-situ testing, including Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) and pocket penetrometer testing.
• - Record clear, detailed field logs and site sketches using our digital logging platform/tablet.
• - Maintain and service drilling machinery, vehicles, and testing equipment daily.
• - Liaise professionally with site supervisors, builders, and clients on-site.
• - Experience in the CMT/Geotech industry is preferable.
• - Degree in Geology or Drilling cert II (is preferred but not essential)
• - Current C Class drivers’ licence or equivalent.
• - Truck license would be of benefit
• - Able to work in team and individual environments
• - Basic computer skills
• - Full working rights in Australia and currently Australian based
• - NSW White Card (Construction Induction Card, or have the ability to acquire)
• - Ability to pass a pre-employment medical inclusive of D&A test

Remuneration is negotiable and based on the applicants experience.
