Job description

We are seeking a dynamic Geospatial Officer with strong technical GIS skills to join our Geospatial Services team, with the choice to be based in Townsville, Cairns or Canberra.

As part of the Data & Geospatial Services team, you will contribute to improved spatial decision making across the organisation by managing and maintaining authoritative geospatial data, producing clear and accurate maps and visualisations, and delivering practical spatial analysis to support planning, operations, and policy development.

In this role, you will provide GIS expertise to teams across the organisation, help integrate spatial information into business processes, and ensure geographic data is used effectively to inform outcomes in areas such as service delivery, environmental management, and operational planning. You will be a team player, working closely and collaboratively with the broader Technical and Digital Services team and a diverse network of stakeholders.

What you'll do
  • Develop and maintain accurate, current geospatial datasets and products using ESRI software.
  • Produce static and interactive maps, cartographic materials and associated legislative documentation, ensuring outputs meet quality standards.
  • Deliver analytical support and quality-assured compliance products for the Field Management Program.
  • Help colleagues use GIS effectively through advice, training and mapping tools and workflows suited to daily operations.
  • Conduct spatial analysis to support operational activities.
What you'll bring
  • Demonstrated experience with ESRI products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and enterprise geodatabases, covering map production and publication, spatial and non-spatial data management, spatial analysis and spatial data quality assurance.
  • Experience with spatial data formats, coordinate systems, metadata standards and basic database concepts, including shapefiles, geodatabases and SQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including translating user requirements into spatial outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute as a supportive member of a multidisciplinary team.
