Sales Department Leadership & Management
Take overall responsibility for the performance and day-to-day operation of the Sales Department. Lead, coach and develop the sales management team and Sales Consultants, establish clear performance expectations and create a high-performing, disciplined and customer-focused sales culture.
Sales Volume, Revenue & Gross Profit
Take ownership of dealership sales volume, revenue, front-end gross profit and overall sales department profitability. Develop and execute strategies to achieve or exceed dealership and manufacturer targets while maintaining appropriate margin and commercial discipline.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Performance
Prepare and manage sales budgets and forecasts, monitor departmental financial performance and provide regular reporting to the Director. Analyse sales results, margins, discounts, conversion rates, cost performance and market conditions to identify risks and opportunities.
KPI & Performance Management
Establish and monitor individual, team and departmental KPIs. Conduct regular performance reviews and implement corrective action where performance falls below expectations.
Leads, CRM & Conversion Management
Take ownership of dealership lead-management performance, including lead allocation, response times, follow-up activity, appointments, test drives and conversion. Ensure CRM processes are consistently followed and use CRM data to identify opportunities to improve sales performance.
Stock & Inventory Strategy
Take overall responsibility for new vehicle stock management, including stock levels, model and variant mix, vehicle allocation, demonstrators and aged inventory. Develop strategies to maximise stock turnover, minimise ageing and align inventory with market demand and sales objectives.
Deal Structure, F&I & Trade-Ins
Maintain oversight of deal structure, discounting and profitability. Work closely with Finance & Insurance, Administration and other relevant departments to maximise overall deal profitability while maintaining a strong customer experience. Support trade-in appraisal and used-vehicle processes where required.
Sales Strategy & Market Development
Develop dealership sales strategies based on market conditions, competitor activity, customer demand and OEM objectives. Work closely with Marketing to ensure campaigns, events, test‑drive activities and lead‑generation initiatives translate into measurable sales outcomes.
Customer Experience & CSI
Maintain a consistently high standard of customer experience throughout the complete sales journey. Monitor CSI, customer feedback and online reviews, and ensure escalated customer concerns are handled professionally and effectively.
OEM & Dealership Performance
Maintain a strong working relationship with manufacturer representatives and ensure the dealership meets OEM sales targets, KPIs, campaign requirements, incentive criteria and operating standards.
Cross‑Department Leadership
Work closely with Finance & Insurance, Marketing, Administration, Delivery, Aftersales and senior management to improve overall dealership performance and ensure a seamless customer journey from initial enquiry through to vehicle delivery and ownership.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Proven experience as a General Sales Manager, Senior Sales Manager or high-performing Sales Manager within an automotive dealership.
Demonstrated experience leading a sizeable automotive sales team and managing departmental performance.
A strong track record of achieving or exceeding sales volume, gross profit and manufacturer targets.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience with budgets, forecasting, margins and dealership profitability.
Strong experience managing vehicle stock, ageing, inventory turnover and stock mix.
Strong understanding of dealership CRM systems, lead management and sales conversion.
Comprehensive knowledge of automotive sales processes, F&I, trade‑ins and vehicle delivery.
Proven leadership, coaching and performance‑management capability.
Strong analytical ability and confidence using dealership data and KPIs to make commercial decisions.
A hands‑on leadership style and willingness to remain closely involved in daily dealership operations.
Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
The ability to drive accountability while maintaining a positive and performance‑focused team culture.
Strong understanding of manufacturer/OEM standards, CSI and dealership compliance requirements.
Experience with EV or emerging automotive brands will be highly regarded.
